Sarla Soni

"Hello, my name is Sarla and I was born and brought up in the colorful and beautiful region of Rajasthan. It was great fun growing up there. I lived in Rajasthan until I got married and moved to the 'pink city' of Jaipur.

"Since childhood I've had a knack for art, and I often indulged in sketching and drawing as a hobby. When I got married to an artist, my interest surfaced again, and I saw myself in the beautiful and mesmerizing world of art.

"My husband, N. K. Soni (a Novica featured artist) always encourages me to pursue my interests, but at first I did not want to do it professionally. One day, I found myself mesmerized by the colorful variety of gemstones and I thought I could make something beautiful out these raw materials. I discussed it with my husband, and together started creating gemstone paintings.

"My husband used to paint on glass slabs and I use to decorate the boxes with gemstones. It has been a lot of fun working with my husband in this way. I have exhibited my work at the local mela (fair), where I have received a lot of praise and appreciation for my creations. One day I wish to exhibit my products all over the world.

"I am so fortunate to be associated with Novica. Their way of promoting artisans is very genuine and I hope my products will be appreciated by people worldwide."
