The Przepiorka Family began working with wood in the 1950s when Wolf and Genny married and set up their workshop. Their children, Theodor and Eveli, grew up amid saws and woods of all kinds. Today they continue that work with the help of Norma, the secretary who has worked with the Przepiorkas for more than 50 years and is already part of the family.
Eveli is a designer and jeweler, a favorite among Novica's clients. She creates pieces that interpret colonial Brazilian style in a contemporary language, blending beauty with practicality.
Experts in the art of wood carving, the Przepiorka family specializes in furniture pieces they create from fine Brazilian hardwoods, such as
peroba. Brazilian hardwoods have become very expensive and run the danger of extinction, so a new trend has flourished in Brazil – that is to recycle wood items obtained from antique furniture, houses, boats and different fixtures (shelves, windowsills, etc).
The passing of time has enhanced the allure of these vintage woods, for it accents their grain and fiber. They become resistant to wood infestation. Age makes the woods harder and drier, which is why working with these fine antique woods can become a endeavor. It is a type of work reserved for true masters, such as the Przepiorka Family. They create a variety of original and modern designs that nonetheless retain the fascinating allure of antique décor.
