"My full name is Kallaya Ponsomboonkij, born in Bangkok on April 12, 1968 and I have three younger brothers. I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the Thai Chamber of Commerce University, and an MBA from Srinakharin Wirot.
"I have been interested in arts since I was young. In Bangkok I used to work for a Thai handicraft shop, and I used to dream of one day having my own traditional arts and crafts business. In 2006 I quit my job and decided to follow my dream, but my problem was contacting artisans, who reside mainly in Chiang Mai, too far from Bangkok.
"I didn't want to give up on my dream, so I decided to move to Chiang Mai. I make my own designs, and artisans expertly transform my vision into reality. We make a very good team, because they are very skilled and talented with their hands, but don't have much experience in design, which is my strong point.
"Starting on my own was very challenging, I wasn't sure what customers would like. I feel happy when I meet customer's demands, and satisfaction.
"I live my life in a normal way, not fancy or luxurious. I like to help people, and when I have money I always find a way to donate.
"I love freedom, and I love art, especially in the traditional Thai style. I guess you could say I am addicted to classic Thai charm. It is what inspired me to have my own handicraft studio and to do what I love. I don't have a particular process to follow when I'm designing. It can just come to my mind anytime, so I always have paper and pen with me.
"The most impressive thing I have done is also to start on my own venture. I am very proud of it and I enjoy designing all of my works. I think they are an important part of my life. I also feel proud that through my work I can help others in the village earn money too.
"My wish is that my work will be known by many people. I promise I will try my best to create good works that represent Thai Art. The charm of our traditional art not only can be touched with the hands, it touches our heart. Thai art is beautiful and unique, so I am doing my best to convey it through my work. Thank you Novica for helping artists like me introduce the world to Thai Arts."
